This is a fun, noisy game where you follow a conductor to create the sounds of a rainstorm!
What to do
Choose one person to act as the conductor of the storm.
Players form a circle.
The conductor stands in the centre of the circle, facing the first person.
The conductor starts by rubbing their hands together: the sound of gentle rainfall. This is copied by the first person.
Then the conductor turns slowly round on the spot, to each person in turn. Until they are all performing the action that sounds like gentle and increasingly heavy rainfall.
The conductor then repeats the whole process with a new action – snapping fingers, hands clapping thighs, stamping feet – to build up to the crescendo of the storm.
The conductor decreased the volume of the rainstorm by going through the above steps in reverse until the last person rubbing hands is silent and the game is finished.
Variations
- Can the group think of other things which get gradually louder and then quieter again? A racing car, dawn chorus etc
- Does anyone think they can conduct these sounds?
- Could you add actions to your sounds?
