Woodcraft Folk Celebrates Centenary with ambitious ‘100 Objects for 100 Years’ project

2025 is a huge milestone year for Woodcraft Folk, the renowned youth organization dedicated to education for social change celebrates its centenary. The charity are commemorating 100 years of empowering young people and fostering a sense of global community, peace, and environmental stewardship. As part of the anniversary celebrations, Woodcraft Folk have a programme of events including a book launch, international camp and this week launch their 100 Objects for 100 Years project.

The ‘100 Objects for 100 Years’ traveling exhibition will showcase a carefully curated collection of artifacts, each representing a significant moment, story, or achievement in Woodcraft Folk’s history. From vintage memorabilia and iconic uniforms to handmade crafts and personal testimonials, these objects will highlight the diverse heritage and community spirit that defines Woodcraft Folk.

With a nod to its youth empowerment values, Woodcraft Folk’s young members will be guiding the project and playing a special part in choosing the selected items to be displayed.

The project will be delivered in partnership with UCL’s Special Collections and the Museum of Youth Culture with support from the Co-operative Heritage Trust.

Project Manager Marcus Belben says: We are delighted to launch this special project and what better way to celebrate Woodcraft Folk’s centenary. The project will bring together a group of young people and volunteers to tell the story of Woodcraft Folk’s history – its members and volunteers. Following detailed consultation, the project will produce an engaging touring exhibition, marketing material, badges, educational activities and an ebook! We are currently in the process of recruiting young members and volunteers to take part in the project so if you are keen to explore Woodcraft Folk’s enriching and fascinating history please get in touch!”.

The project will identify 100 objects from Woodcraft Folk’s archive, currently held at UCL, sharing how Woodcraft Folk’s aims and principles have been put into practice over the last 100 years.

Woodcraft Folk are inviting young people aged 13-25 years wanting to take part in the project and help curate the collection to get in touch. As a group of young people you will get to decide which stories are told, defining who Woodcraft Folk are and helping to shape the organisation’s future.
