Welcome to our New ESC Volunteer!

At the beginning of this week we were joined by our newest ESC Volunteer Lauren. Lauren is with us until the January 2022. Her role will be supporting work at the national camps over the summer as well as distanced membership and widening participation over the autumn term.

A message from Lauren

Hello Everyone,

My name is Lauren Halley, I am 22 years old and I am an ESC volunteer from Ireland. For my ESC placement I will be based in Manchester. I have a total of six years experience volunteering and working with young people of all ages. As a young person I attended a youth group and went on to volunteer as a teenager and the rest was history. I went on to complete a BA (hons) degree in Social Care Practice for four years accomplishing a first class honours degree.

Throughout college I also engaged and participated in other ESC projects such as a youth exchange. This really helped me improve my intercultural skills, self-awareness and self-confidence. Along with this, I have participated in other youth groups surrounding issues on the LGBTQ+ community and the environment gaining and offering support whenever needed. After finishing college, I decided to take the next step on my journey and volunteer abroad as an ESC volunteer.

I am beyond grateful Woodcraft Folk has brought me on and I can’t wait to work with all the staff and young people. I am looking forward to contributing as much as I can while also learning more about myself along the way through the work and the young people themselves. Looking forward to hopefully meeting and see you all very soon.

Best wishes,
Lauren Halley
