Venturer Camp hoping to attract more young people thanks to funding

In their spirit of increasing and widening participation, youth organisation Woodcraft Folk are pleased to have secured some funding to offer those in need reduced (and in some cases FREE) places at their Venturer Camp coming up this summer.

Venturer Camp is taking place 5th-12th August 2023 for 13-17 year olds at Woodcraft Folk’s Biblins Youth Campsite. The site is nestled in the Wye Valley, the 18 acre site hugs the river and is surrounded by ancient woodlands.

The youth organisation want anyone who fits the camp age bracket to have the opportunity to come to camp if they want to – the Venturer Camp 2023 Access Fund has been designed to reduce the financial barriers of attending the event including covering travel costs. The Funds were raised through the charity’s Big Give Christmas Challenge in 2022 from individual donations and match funding from the Four Acre Trust. The charity wants to thanks to all those who donated during the campaign, your donations mean they are able to bring Woodcraft Folk experiences to even more young people!

The Venturer Camp coordination team will prioritise requests from young people, although volunteers are also encouraged to apply for a further reduced or free place.

Priority will be given to individuals who:

  • Are eligible for free school meals
  • Receive Universal Credit
  • Would described themselves as disabled
  • Identify as a person of colour
  • Attend a new Woodcraft Folk group, one registered in 2022 or 2023
  • Attend a small Woodcraft Folk group, one with less than 7 recorded young members
  • Will need to travel more than 150 miles to get to camp

To apply, simply complete this short Google Form. Requests should be submitted by individuals and not as a group. The request form will open on Monday 3rd April and close at 5pm on Monday 8th May.

Decisions will be communicated directly to individuals by Monday 15th May, in plenty of time for the booking deadline on Friday May 26th.
