Treasurer

Are you passionate about supporting young people and skilled in financial management? Woodcraft Folk is looking for a Volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and help shape the future of our charity.

Woodcraft Folk is a movement for children and young people, empowering them to build a fairer, more sustainable world through co-operative play, education and outdoor activities. As Treasurer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our financial sustainability and planning, enabling us to reach more young people and expand our impact.

About the role

As a key member of our Board, you will:

✅ Oversee financial strategy and ensure strong financial governance.
✅ Support budgeting, financial planning, and risk management.
✅ Scrutinise management accounts and annual reports.
✅ Advise on charity financial regulations and best practices.
✅ Act as a key point of contact for financial queries from staff and volunteers.

About you

You will have an interest in young people, social justice and the environment. Be keen to work co-operatively with volunteers of all ages and staff to support long-term planning to help Woodcraft Folk achieve its strategic ambitions:

  1. Increase the number of children and young people, particularly underrepresented children and young people, participating in Woodcraft Folk’s values led educational activities
  2. Increase the number and diversity of volunteers by reducing the barriers to participation and improving support
  3. Remove financial barriers to participation for children, young people and volunteers and achieve organisational wide financial sustainability
  4. Adapt activities to reduce Woodcraft Folk’s impact on the environment and support climate resilience

Commitment

📅 Attend six Trustee Board meetings and four Finance & General Purposes Committee meetings per year (a mix of online and in-person).

Meet every 6-8 weeks with the Head of Resources for financial oversight.

Who we are looking for

🔹 Financial qualification or relevant training.
🔹 Understanding of charity accounting & reporting.
🔹 Ability to explain financial matters to non-finance professionals.
🔹 Experience with governance and/or membership organisations (desirable).
