As it prepares for its centenary, Woodcraft Folk is delighted to announce that its recent application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund was successful. The grant will launch the ‘100 Objects for 100 Years’ project, a project initiated and designed by Woodcraft Folk’s young members. Launching in the New Year, the project will be delivered in partnership with UCL’s Special Collections and the Museum of Youth Culture with support from the Co-operative Heritage Trust.
The project will bring together a group of young people to tell the story of Woodcraft Folk’s history – its members and volunteers. Following detailed consultation, the project will produce a touring exhibition, marketing material, badges, educational activities and an ebook. The project will identify 100 objects from Woodcraft Folk’s archive, held at UCL, sharing how Woodcraft Folk’s aims and principles have been put into practice over the last 100 years. Young people have particularly expressed an interest in sharing badges, banners and costume.
When asked about the projects, Woodcraft Folk CEO Debs McCahon said:
“I’m so excited about this project, as a history graduate I love delving into the archive. This project has been designed by young people and has many opportunities to showcase Woodcraft Folk during our centenary year. Activities will take place in London, Manchester, Kettering and Rochdale – I encourage members of all ages to get involved especially if they have an interest in history, archives or creative arts”.
