Peace Pledge Union: White Poppy & Remembrance Day Session

The run up to Remembrance Day (11th November) is an important time to have conversations with young people about war, peace and remembrance. Yet too often these topics are framed using military language. White poppies offer an alternative that challenges this dominant military narrative. They stand for remembrance of all victims of war, both civilian and military, and an active commitment to peace. Woodcraft Folk groups,  as well as schools, are increasingly using the white poppy in educational activities to open up a balanced discussion on how and why we remember those affected by war.

In this session, Geoff Tibbs from the Peace Pledge Union will explain the meaning and history of the white poppy, and introduce a range of remembrance activities that group leaders pick up and can use.
