This autumn, youth organisation Woodcraft Folk have organised two exciting adventurous residentials in Kent and Height Gate.
Woodcraft Folk’s ‘Camps for All’ programme has seen the youth charity hosting adventurous residentials at venues across the UK since 2021. The camps are growing in popularity with previous residentials often selling out. The events offer the perfect opportunity for the young attendees to get outdoors and try exciting experiences and bushcraft activities they often don’t get the chance to do.
The residentials are an extension of the charity’s already diverse youth work which serves a range of ages and includes over 200 local groups across the UK, four residential centres, educational programme work and regional and national engaging events. Next year, the youth organisation celebrates 100 years of supporting children and young people.
In October, young people from Leeds and across West Yorkshire came together at Heightgate. The participants all took part in pizza making, campfires, outdoor games, making origami pumpkins, a walk to Stoodley Pike and cooperative games and challenges with new friends.
Project Manager, Lauren Karstadt at Woodcraft Folk says:
“Our Camps for All events are a great opportunity for young people to connect with the outdoors, develop skills, build confidence, take part in workshops and try new experiences. Attendees leave with memories to last a lifetime! Many children don’t have access to the outdoors and our Camps for All events provide the perfect opportunity for them to get close to nature as well as learn new skills and make friends.”
In November, young people headed to Cudham Environmental Activity Centre to explore the local area, take part in bushcraft activities (including making camp donuts!), take part in quizzes, games and making bird and butterfly boxes together.
Whilst at the Camps for All events everyone learnt something new and got to know new people. Those who hadn’t been to Woodcraft Folk before, were warmly welcomed and guided by those who have had a lot of experience within the Woodcraft Folk organisation which was wonderful to see and offered a true reflection of the co-operative values installed in the charity’s young members.
Woodcraft Folk is a movement for children and young people, open to everyone. The youth organisation offers a place where children grow in confidence, learn about the world, build lasting friendships and start to understand how to value the planet and each other. Camps For All events offer an engaging taster over a jam packed weekend into the broad youth work the charity delivers.
