Supporters Update March

On Tuesday 5th March, Debs McCahon (Woodcraft Folk’s CEO) and Tyler Eckersall (Trustee and DF Committee Chair) hosted the latest quarterly Supporters Update.

During the update the duo:

  • Thanked all donors and supporters for helping to raise over £12,000 as part of the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge
  • Celebrated new funding to support residential and outdoor activities. The DCMS Adventures Away from Home funding will support some Woodcraft Folk groups, but also young people living in care and LGBTQ+ groups across Yorkshire & Humber
  • Informed supporters of new Workforce Development funding that will pay for a series of racial literacy training workshops, the first of which starts on Tuesday 12th March
  • Excitedly shared that the recent DF Winter Wonderland was attended by pre-COVID levels of DFs following a successful recruitment/transition support provided at Venturer Camp

Also during the update, Tyler shared recent successes of opening 16 new groups in 2023 and 4 new groups in 2024! The Membership Team are keen to support the development of new groups in both existing and new communities – individuals were encouraged to attend the next Round the Campfire session for new groups on Monday 25th March.

Other headlines shared included:

  • All centres to host age targeted activity weekends during 2024, check out the Woodcraft Folk calendar
  • 60 years of Woodcraft Folk at Lockerbrook Farm
  • 50 years of Woodcraft Folk at Cudham Environmental Activities Centre
  • Pioneer Camp to be hosted at Biblins Youth Campsite (28th July – 3rd August 2024)
  • Camp100 to be hosted at Kelmarsh Hall (27th July – 6th August 2025)

And finally, supporters were encouraged to ask their Trade Union to affiliate to Woodcraft Folk. During 2023, six new Trade Unions have pledged their support to Woodcraft Folk. For more information contact fundraising@woodcraft.org.uk
