Woodcraft working with Brum Climate Justice Coalition (BrunCJC) invite you to join us to show global solidarity! We’re inviting friends from near and far to join us for a playful Cardboard Carnival on 15th November. It’ll coincide with COP30 taking place in Brazil. A hybrid event it’ll connect across the UK and Internationally!
What is COP 30?
The Conference of Parties (COP) was first held in 1995 specifically for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Youth voice at COP is essential to advocate for sustainable solutions and real commitments, bringing innovative and inclusive solutions. A ‘Congress of Youth’ met as part of COP 26 and we want to make sure young people are heard within and outside the main meetings.
Young Brummies have led in demonstrations at previous COPs. Friction, Woodcraft and other BrumCJC people have worked together organising events and conferences (see the Ark video below). This year the newly Refurbished Edge, HQ of Friction Arts, is hosting our Cardboard Carnival. Workshops and activities at the Edge lead up to our international hybrid carnival connecting with Belem, Brazil, at COP 30.
What is our Cardboard Carnival?
We’ll be making stuff in the build up, you can come along to the Edge to make things, or join us for a massive online Carnival connecting with people online all across the World in the afternoon.
An online carnival will start our carnival with support from Change Kitchen, Friends of the Earth, XR Drum beats, and all our Brum Climate Justice Coalition friends, planning to end with speaches outside Birmingham Cathedral at 4pm.
The inspiration for cardboard carnival came from young people in Birmingham at CREATE festival, and grew after conversations at Woodcraft Camp 100, meeting international delegations and young people from across the UK, all determined to take action on Climate Justice.
