Woodcraft Folk’s General Council are disappointed to read the recent statement from Girlguiding regarding its decision to expel trans girls and women from their organisation by September.
General Council notes and stands by the previous statement published 3rd December 2026: woodcraft.org.uk/woodcraft-folk-statement-on-the-exclusion-of-trans-children-from-girlguiding/
Further to that statement:
We recognise that the leadership of Girlguiding believes it is compelled to act in response to recent legal judgments and challenges. However, removing young people from spaces where they feel safe and supported, through no fault of their own, is deeply harmful. We are disappointed that this is the course Girlguiding has chosen, and we firmly believe that a more compassionate and inclusive approach is both possible and necessary.
The Woodcraft Folk will continue to stand by all of our members: children, young people and volunteers, believing in their right to self-determination. We continue to stand in solidarity with those affected by Girlguiding’s recent decision – including any who are gender non-conforming and may be forced to justify their involvement based on their own personal expression.
The constant attacks on trans people, particularly trans youth, and on their ability to live with dignity and safety within society is unconscionable and we will continue to stand firmly against discrimination and exclusion in all its forms.
A Better World is Possible.
