Woodcraft Folk First Aid/Emergency Procedures


If an accident should occur to volunteers or children;

  • Reassure the injured person
  • Assess the injury without moving the person
  • Get assistance from other workers to distract and reassure other children
  • Refer to the named first- aider, administer first aid, or contact emergency services – which ever is most appropriate.
  • If in any doubt to action required contact emergency services.
  • Never administer medicine in tablet of liquid form.
  • Get a contact for the parents/guardians and contact them, or a named person for workers
  • If they can’t be contacted or if is appropriate, go with them to hospital
  • Record accident in the accident book
  • Report to project co-ordinator
  • Evaluate the incident – how did it happen? Could it have been prevented? Did we deal with it well enough? Etc.


Handling Blood


Follow normal procedures (see above) taking into consideration the following points if someone is bleeding;

  • Use disposal gloves
  • Apply a non-porous dressing
  • No person who has an open wound themselves should attend a person who is bleeding
  • Surface or equipment soiled with blood should be promptly and liberally cleaned with bleach diluted one part bleach to ten parts water. Those who are cleaning should wear suitable gloves.
  • Any devise that has punctured the skin must be safely enclosed in a container and disposed of, of immersed in bleach or disinfectant.


First Aid Box


  • Ensure that you have access to a first aid box with suitable contents for the group night acitivity.
  • If anything is used please write down what needs to be replaced and make sure this isdone asap.
