PlayOut takes fun, co-operative activities to parks in London so that families can simply turn up and children can get stuck in - there's no cost and no booking needed.

In line with the Woodcraft ethos, Playout activities focus on co-operative, outdoor play. The project aims to offer a safe environment for children in Lambeth and Southwark to have fun, make friends and learn new games. There are always lots of experienced adults on hand, including a mixture of qualified play leaders, play workers and volunteers.

Summer 2010 activities included

  • steel pans/drums
  • face-painting
  • badge-making
  • splash painting
  • iced biscuit making
  • juice making
  • plus all the usual arts & crafts, ball games and parachute games

Although occasionally rained off by an unexpected downpour, PlayOut is very mobile and can respond quickly to demand, moving from one park to another and visiting children's events such as the National Playday at Clapham Common.

In Summer 2010, the London Playout team of playworkers provided music, crafts and games to over 1,500 children. Keep an eye on the Woodcraft calendar to find out where the PlayOut bus will appear next summer... You can find out more by contacting staff at
