Supporters webinar

Wednesday, 10 June 2020
On June 6th, members and supporters joined Woodcraft Folk's Pip sayers (Chair of General Council) and Debs McCahon (Director of Development) to celebrate some of our movement's achievements of 2019 and to explore some of the strategic changes General Council are looking to implement between now and our centenary in 2025.

During the session Debs and Pip shared some of the highlights of 2019, including welcoming:

- Over 31,000 overnight stays at our residential centres
- Nearly 8,000 young people participating in outreach activities
- 20 new groups
Pip and Debs also shared the impact of and our response to Covid-19. Within two days of closing groups online programme was being provided, and we are pleased to report that engagement in our online programme is increasing every week. We ask all supporters to share to reach more children, young people and families.
Pip and Debs also shared the 12 strategic changes agreed by General Council in February 2020, which included:
- Testing new approaches to delivering Education for Social Change to support our ambition to increase and widen participation, which has already started with online and remote programme and will be further tested this summer with holiday clubs provided to Coop Academy Schools in west Yorkshire
- To invest in greater levels of volunteer support and training in response to the increased regulation of the sector
- Relocating to Manchester and aligning ourselves more strongly with the co-operative movement

A big thank you to all our volunteers!

According to eBay UK an estimated £51 million worth of unwanted items have been thrown away during lockdown.

Upcoming Online Programme

Tuesday, 26 May 2020

So far we have enjoyed a wide variety of online sessions with participants ranging from Cardiff to Edinburgh to Exeter of all ages.

Last weekend we enjoyed the #BigCampIN where many camped in their gardens, living rooms, kitchens and balconies and joined live sessions based on activities we would usually take part in at a 'real' camp.

In the coming months around our usual national online programme we will have themed weeks and weekends where we will have focused activities. The upcoming monthly themes are:

#BigCampIn a success

Tuesday, 26 May 2020

Weary eyed and back at our desks we reflect on a success #BigCampIn!

Children, young people and families from across the Uk joined in #BigCampIn activities with many building dens to sleep in on Friday and Saturday night. Eggy Bread was prepared and demonstrated by Andy Flinn of Bromley District, wide games played, craft activities, a quiz and a merrymoot - all the essential ingredients of a Woodcraft Folk camp without any mud or equipment to dry/clean!
