Young Members Framing Online Programme

Wednesday, 1 April 2020

As you will all be aware by now, due to recent government guidelines we have had to pause groups meeting physically to help slow the spread of Covid-19. At Woodcraft Folk we have been working hard to assure that this doesn’t mean that groups have to have a pause in taking part in Woodcraft folk activities. Nationally we have been hosting online programme such as storytelling, virtual campfires and quizzes and have upcoming virtual crafting sessions and sessions around refugees. We have also seen many groups/districts creating their own online content for their local groups which have been a real success.

We have created this survey – to be filled in by parents of Woodchips/young Elfins and to be completed by young people (Pioneers/Venturers/DFs) themselves if they feel able to. It would be great to get as many responses as possible from all age groups so we can frame our national online delivery around what young people want to take part in. Please do fill this in for/with your child. You could also run an online session based on this survey to find out how to best engage young people in your groups. Please find a template for this kind of session here and feel free to edit however you think would best suit your group.

How do we find out what is coming up nationally?

We are sharing our national programme on the website calendar and on our social media pages. Please do promote these online events with your group members so whoever wants to engage can. It would be great if you have local social medias to share these events.

Is there any training available to run local online group nights?

We are in the process of creating a series of online webinars for group leaders/volunteers. The first took place last week on staying safe online and can be found here. Upcoming webinars include Choosing your platform (Weds 1st April), Ideas for Online sessions (3rd April), effective group facilitation (tbc) and a virtual games share (tbc). Keep an eye on the calendar/social media for more upcoming webinars for adults/leaders.

How can I be involved in delivering online programme nationally?

We would love for as many volunteers as possible to lead online content. If you have an idea for a session or want to lead a session please do get in touch to and we can discuss more about scheduling and delivery.

Are there safeguarding risks when leading online sessions?

As in the physical world there are some risks when leading sessions online. Please find attached below our risk assessment and guidance for online delivery of sessions and read through (as well as sharing with any local members who are delivering content).

How else can we help Woodcraft Folk at this time?

We have set up a just giving page where you can have a look at donating to us online. Find out more here.

We hope everyone is keeping safe and well. If anyone has any further questions please do not hesitate to get in touch to
