John Tippins, co-ordinator of Hounslow district, was asked by the Community Channel to make a short film as part of the 'My Brilliant Moment' series, an “inspiring short film series looking at charity and community leaders' personal 'eureka' moments”.

The television company approached charities that had received an Awards for All grant. Many Woodcraft districts were successful with Awards for All applications, but Hounslow District also happened to be the closest to the company's studios!

Leicestershire District May Camp 2014

Leicestershire District welcomed friends from Hinckley and West Coventry for a camp over a very soggy bank holiday weekend in May. Over seventy people embraced the conditions to enjoy a wonderful wet weekend of fun and friendship.

Experienced and novice campers co-operated to provide a glorious buffet of activities: carving, crafting & cooking; singing, sand-play & science; fire-lighting, football and felting. Phil's "5-mile walk" will long remain in the memory of those who enjoyed it!

Ian Willis of Cambridge Woodcraft Folk collapsed and died at home unexpectedly last week, at the age of 58 leaving his family and friends shocked and devastated. He was extraordinarily active in woodcraft folk over much of the past 20 years, both nationally and in the Cambridge district.

Fun at Festivals with Face Your Elephant

Woodcraft Folk are invitied to help festival-goers increase their knowledge of science and engineering and how to reduce their carbon emissions.

Some Woodcraft Folk members may remember "Face Your Elephant” from previous years and it's back for 2014. FYE is seeking to recruit up to 50 engineering students to receive training and engage with festival goers in a variety of fun, interactive ways at two great festivals this year; Latitude and Shambala.

Working in Woodcraft Folk, it's easy to end up thinking that parachutes are only made for playing games - cat and mouse, mushroom, fruit bowl, you know the list - and there is nothing remotely scary about them. They're particularly useful and photogenic for members on peaceful protests on the street.
