Updated Information for Summer Camps 2021

Thursday, 3 June 2021

Summer is just around the corner, and volunteers and staff are working hard to prepare Woodcraft Folk's campsites and outdoor centres for visits from Pioneer and Venturer groups in August.

These events will be different to our original plans, due to the restrictions on youth activities that we expect to be in force across in England in August, but will still offer opportunities for outdoor adventures inspired by Woodcraft Folk's aims and principles.

Pioneer Camp

Camping for Pioneers is available between 2 and 13 August at Biblins Youth Campsite, in the scenic Wye Valley.

Camping will be in small villages consistent with recommended bubble sizes. Stays of between two and six nights are available, at a cost of £20 per head per night. More information can be found in our Frequently Asked Questions.

We are encouraging bookings to be made by group contacts, please get in touch if you wish to book in as a family group.

Camps for Venturers

Likely restrictions on numbers mean that a camp for Venturers will not provide the opportunities for groups to mix that young people would expect from such an event. Therefore the planned provision for Venturers has changed significantly from what was first proposed.

Smaller Venturer residential activities will take place at a number of Woodcraft Folk centres and campsites, including Biblins, Cudham, Darsham, Lockerbrook and Park Farm.

These will take place concurrently, from 7 to 13 August, at a cost of £100 per person. More information is in the Frequently Asked Questions for these events.

At this stage we are asking Venturer groups to help us match them to locations and to other groups by sharing likely numbers and venue preferences and after consultation with young members for group contacts to fill in an expression of interest form. Please speak to your group leader/contact to find out more.

If you have questions that are not covered above, or want to discuss these opportunities further, please contact Lauren Karstadt, Development Officer, by emailing lauren@woodcraft.org.uk.

FAQs will be updated as soon as further guidance is made available to the youth work sector. Plans will reflect any measures needed to deliver Covid-secure residential activities, including compliance with maximum bubble sizes, regular testing of participants as required, safe distancing and hygiene measures, to ensure that we can continue to bring brilliant experiences to our young people.
