Speaking Up in the Houses of Parliament!

Tuesday, 22 October 2019

On Tuesday 15th October, a delegation from Woodcraft Folk took part in a session of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Youth Affairs. Our delegation was made up of a Elfin and Pioneer from Lewisham & Greenwich District, alongside one of our Trustees and our Director of Development. Together they listened as young people shared their concerns with MPs.

Woodcraft Folk representation was high at the event, which was chaired by former chair of General Council and current MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle, and our delegation's members were some of the youngest in attendance.

At the event, a series of passionate and articulate young people spoke to highlight their concerns and priorities including: knife crime, social justice, the climate emergency, mental health, equal pay, votes at 16, funding for youth work and youth homelessness. Overall, it was felt that young people are using their voices well to raise their concerns, and now what we need more of is adult listening!
