Scottish Gathering 2017
Over 50 Scottish members, experienced and new, older and younger came together for our annual Scottish Gathering weekend at the end of January. Members from all our districts; Glasgow West End, Glasgow Southside, Glasgow East End, Glasgow Kelvingrove, Stirling, Falkirk, Edinburgh Portobello, Edinburgh Bruntsfield and Newhaven shared their news and ideas together.
The younger children’s programme included a pirate / mermaid theme, baking biscuits, parachute games and t-shirt printing whilst parents were invited to workshops on training for local groups and funding for local groups. The young people’s programme consulted Pioneers and older Elfins on International Camp 2020, favourite group nights, Scottish Gathering 2018, Woodcraft Folk’s identity and our aim’s and principles.
Our AGM was a chance to hear about the work the Scottish Committee and staff have been doing over the past year through a slideshow. Feedback was then taken on what worked, what we could have done differently, and ideas for going forward. With a break for tea and home baking we then went through the formal business smoothly.
Working together in our mountain clans we enjoyed great food including a Burns supper. We also enjoyed some project updates, nature bingo, a children’s performance including a gymnastics display, singing, and drama, then a ceilidh and a quiz!
Snow fell on Saturday as we watched the woodpeckers at the bird table but it didn’t lie so we went to seek it out on the hill with a walk on Sunday morning and had snow ball fights and snowman building time to round off our busy weekend.
Thanks to all those who helped make the event happen. We are looking forward to more Scottish wide events in 2017.
