Oct 2020 GC Update

Friday, 6 November 2020

General Council met online on Saturday 24th October - here’s a quick summary of our meeting to keep you in the loop.

We discussed:

Covid recovery: General Council discussed the need to provide greater support for groups and districts once we are able to meet in person and resume our normal activities. If you could help GC with developing a national volunteer recruitment drive, supporting and expanding our #DreamBigAtHome offer, or expanding our youth led campaigns, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch by emailing general.council@woodcraft.org.uk

Improving GC’s accessibility: led by some of our recently elected trustees, GC reflected on the accessibility of its meetings for newer and younger members. GC committed to developing the way it works to empower young trustees as well as look more widely at Woodcraft Folk’s democratic processes to ensure young voices are truly leading our movement.

Insurance expectations: GC has recently been told by Woodcraft Folk’s insurers that as an organisation we need to have greater oversight of what groups do and we should be providing greater levels of support and training to our volunteers in order to ensure the safety of our young and adult members. As we move into the new year, we will be rolling out movement wide mandatory training for volunteers working with young people. This will be online, and in video form. More information about this will be given to groups and districts before Christmas.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch - just email general.council@woodcraft.org.uk

blue skies,
General Council
