New CEO appointment

Thursday, 13 August 2020

General Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Debs McCahon as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Woodcraft Folk. Debs has been the Joint CEO for Woodcraft Folk since September 2018 with Sarah Welsh, who recently announced her resignation.

Debs has led Woodcraft Folk’s grant fundraising, safeguarding and project development for the last 12 years, during which time she has demonstrated a true commitment to Woodcraft Folk’s educational values.

General Council’s appointment of Debs as CEO comes alongside a number of other organisational proposals and changes including to the way in which Folk Office and Woodcraft Folk’s residential centres work. More information on these proposals can be found in the membership update (13/08/2020).

Debs takes on this role at an exciting and challenging time, as Woodcraft Folk  continues to respond to COVID-19. General Council fully support Debs as she leads the organisation towards our centenary in 2025 and the implementation of the significant organisational changes mentioned above.

General Council would also like to express its gratitude to Sarah Welsh, the outgoing Director of Operations & Finance (Joint CEO). Sarah joined Woodcraft Folk in September 2018 and has made a huge contribution since then. This has included leading a strategic review of Folk Office’s operations (and the operations of the charity as a whole) and introducing whole-organisation management accounts, which will help General Council in its decision making. General Council would like to wish Sarah all the best for her future.
