Forests school badge

FROM TINY ACORNS...

Following on from recent work being developed by the Education and Groups committee of General Council, and the idea of a "Mafia" badge, Paul Bemrose of Brighthelmstone District thought a Forest School badge might get supported. What is clear is he was totally unprepared for the interest among outdoor centres, Area Council and Groups and Districts. Paul put out a call for people wanting to order Forest School badges. The response has meant that 1100 badges in green or red are being placed and will shortly be available.

Paul said "Forest school and bushcraft are natural activities for WF and easily sit alongside camping and collaborative work. Whilst groups can use the badges in whatever way they see fit, we will put together a small resource of potential activities which can be used, conversely volunteers could dip into the bushcraft way packs already issued to groups. Sussex Area is running a Pioneer bushcraft/forest school weekend in June. Others might well use the ideas to develop activities for their summer camps. The order demonstrates that bushcraft and Forest school are becoming mainstream activities over a wider section of the movement"
