European Voluntary Service position in IFM-SEI

IFM-SEI is looking for an enthusiastic and active volunteer to work full time in Brussels for 11 months between October 2014 and August 2015. We will apply for a fund called European Voluntary Service to cover the living costs of the volunteer.PLEASE NOTE: The grant is not guaranteed. We will apply in March 2014 and will know if we were successful in June or July.

Summary of the project

The volunteer will work on some of the following work areas during the year (depending on their specific interests and which project grants are accepted):

  • Global gender equality project: The volunteer will be in the team of a global project addressing different aspects of gender equality.
  • IFM’s European Falcon Network seminar: Every year the European Falcon Network meets for a seminar on a topic chosen by them. The volunteer will help prepare this seminar in autumn 2014.
  • Rainbow Resources: We are currently developing a new edition of our publication ‘Rainbow Resources’. The volunteer can be involved in editing and translating the new edition.
  • Tackling the culture of violence: Seminar taking place in autumn 2014 on violence against children and young people. The volunteer will participate in the seminar and will be involved in the follow-up, possibly developing a larger campaign on violence against children.
  • Participation of Roma children: Exciting European child participation project, supporting group leaders in empowering Roma children to participate in community life and decision-making
  • Communications: The volunteer will support the office team in their communications work, for example taking care of the facebook page or the newsletter
  • Working with a local Rode Valken group

The position is voluntary but the volunteer will receive the following:

  • Accommodation and food in Brussels
  • 90% Return travel costs to Brussels covered
  • Insurance for the whole year
  • A language course (French or Dutch)
  • Local transport in Brussels
  • Training programme organised by the EVS programme
  • A small amount of pocket money

Profile of the volunteer


  • Aged between 18 and 30
  • Active in a European member organisation of IFM-SEI
  • Able to work in English
  • Spanish and/or French would be an advantage
  • Able to commit a year to volunteering in Brussels
  • Computer literate
  • We are particularly open to young people with fewer opportunities
  • Basic knowledge of non-formal education
  • Open-minded with a good sense of humour :)
