East London Woodcraft Folk and DOST show their film about youth detention at the BFI

Friday, 8 May 2015

Students with Newham and Waltham Forest Woodcraft Folk and DOST presented their work at BFI Southbank on 8 May as part of a celebration of youth media produced as part of Adobe Youth Voices.  Iolo Walker and Raman Singh introduced the work produced over the past year by the students ranging in ages 13 - 19.   The two minute animated film shows what it is like to be a youth detainee and is part of our larger project - a bond between us - which is exploring youth detention in Palestine and the UK.

The students have participated in a global programme empowering young people to voice their opinions on global issues.  This year students' media has tackled a wide range of subjects including climate change, cyber-bullying and ethical fashion.

Adobe Youth Voices is delivered by Eastside Educational Trust in the UK and the AYV Co-ordinator explains more: "AYV is powerful because we are able to support teachers and educators to develop their skills by working with industry professionals and harness this to young people's desire to make their voices heard.  AYV Live! at the BFI Southbank is a wonderful showcase of young people's burgeoning creative confidence.  Making media in a meaningful way and having your work reach an audience is not always easy but we're so impressed with the work showcased at AYV Live! which shows energy, enthusiasm and spirit."

After the event the ambassadors commented "I really enjoyed taking part in Adobe Youth Voices and it was an amazing opportunity to present my work to such a big audience and to see it shown on the screen at the BFI. It has made me want to make more films and get them shown."
