Development Conference: Sustaining Groups

Wednesday, 4 September 2013

Two months until Development Conference (2nd & 3rd November 2013)

This year’s Development Conference will focus on the sustainability of existing groups and Districts – one of the 3 priorities of the new strategic plan Bigger & Better.

Previous Development Conferences have produced:

1. Woodcraft Folk’s Volunteers Guide
2. New and reviewed policies
3. New leader recruitment postcards
4. Factsheets for new groups
5. Motions to Annual Gathering
6. Volunteer Toolkit

We have planned for Development Conference 2013 to be just as productive. Using a range of participative methods members will be supported to explore leader succession planning, funding, partnerships, recruitment and training of leaders. Planned outcomes include:

• Identify good practice in leader succession
• Create top tips in seeking funding from Awards for All
• Learn from the lessons of the recent volunteer recruitment pilots
• Pilot a new training resource on Leader Co-operation and Conflict Resolution

Come along, and join in the two day event which is open to all members and will include:

• Workshops on funding and proving community need from the Big Lottery Fund
• A new Co-operative College facilitated session on how adults co-operate and manage conflict within their local group
• A session on Volunteer Recruitment led by Change Agents UK
• Open Space – enabling members to bring their own ideas and issues for discussion

Food, crèche, accommodation in dormitories at Manchester YHA and travel expenses are provided for all members who book and pay their returnable deposit by Friday 18th October.
