Come & Join SOC

We are looking to recruit new members to Woodcraft Folk’s Standing Orders Committee.

Standing Orders Committee is a small group of volunteers who meet roughly once a quarter to plan and manage Woodcraft Folk AGM with General Council. The team takes the lead on ensuring Woodcraft Folk elections are fair and transparent. They also have a role in supporting the wider membership to make General Council accountable through our democratic structures.

The current team includes Jeni from Lewisham & Greenwich District, Jeni has been a member of Standing Orders Committee for 4 years. Of her experience Jeni says ‘It has been great working with a team of dedicated members, we bring a range of experiences and as a group seek to reduce barriers to members engaging in Woodcraft Folk’s democracy. Last year we organised the AGM online for the first time, which worked very well. I’m excited about supporting more change to increase and widen participation.”

David, who lives in Manchester, has been a long-standing member of the team and was re-elected in 2020. He says "I really enjoy being on SOC because I feel it's important for people to understand how our democracy works and help them engage with it and SOC has a major role to play in that."

If you are interested in joining the team please contact soc@woodcraft.org.uk

We are particularly looking for team members who can ensure a diverse range of voices are heard and who can bring some of the following skills or experiences:

  • Confidence in participating and leading online meetings

  • Chairing & group facilitation skills

  • Reading & understand governance documents

  • Mediation & negotiating skills

  • A strong commitment to inclusion and reducing barriers

The most important thing is a willingness to work co-operatively with team members and be open to the ideas of the wider membership.
