Call Out for Mentors for New ESC Volunteers

Wednesday, 2 December 2020

Woodcraft Folk will soon be hosting 3 volunteers from the EU, two at Biblins and one in London in the new year which is very exciting!

We are now seeking volunteer mentors, to facilitate learning, reflection and to offer our volunteers unbiased support and the occassional friendly chat and check in. As the volunteer in London will be mostly working from home it would be great for them to have a friendly local contact. The meetings with the mentor will either be online, over the phone or face to face where permitted and will focus on personal and social development and wellbeing. Topics can cover:  cultural adaptation, homesickness, social networks outside of volunteer hours and language development. The volunteers will have a separate Woodcraft Folk member of staff as a supervisor to guide them with placement tasks.

Mentor needs to be:

  • skilled in the areas of youth work, wellbeing and emotional coaching

  • Available for one weekly meeting from January (for London) and April (for Biblins), reducing to once a month when the volunteer is settled

  • Available between January 2021 - June 2021 for London and from April 2021 - November 2021 for Biblins

  • Available either in North London or in case of Biblins, close to Bristol / Cardiff / Gloucester areas

  • Ideally someone with experience of volunteering or living abroad.

This is a wonderful opportunity to engage these new young adult volunteers who are new to Woodcraft Folk and to support them during their time in the UK. We can pay travel expenses for mentors to meet with volunteers.
