Bushcraft Camp @ Woodcraft Park Farm 30 Sept – 1 Oct 2017

Friday, 18 August 2017

Bookings for this years Bushcraft camp are open, spaces are limited so get in quickly, the maximum ratio of children to adults will be 5 to 1. It is hoped that an advance working party will arrive on site on the Friday and if you can join us you're very welcome. Leaders who have younger children may bring them to this camp provided the ratio is not exceeded.

The camp will be held at our very own Woodcraft Park Farm, in Lurgashall, Petworth, West Sussex, GU28 9EU.

As with all our Bushcraft camps there will be a element of leader training and skill sharing. If you have any activities to offer please let us know. We will camp in tents on the edge of the woods and will take part in bushcraft activities in the new bushcraft area within the woods adjacent to the camp.

Activities could Include:-

  • Native American Games – traditional games designed to help enhance our young people’s senses.
  • Exploring the Natural Environment of WPF – learning through nature treasure hunts etc.
  • Wood Craft – whittling small personal items like tent pegs, spreaders, forks, spoons, whistles, elder bead bracelets and necklaces. Making larger items for the cooking and communal area like roll top tables for food preparation, serving & washing up, seats for sitting around the fire, tripods, billy hangers and galley racks for cooking over open fire.
  • Fire Lighting – collecting correct materials for tinder, kindling and burning wood. Choosing the best type of open fires for small group and large communal cooking.
  • Cooking – how to cook over open fires, healthy eating, camp hygiene, foraging for and preparing wild food.
  • Bivving - erecting bivouacs and hammocks, constructing benders, arcs and dens to sleep in the wild. If any groups have further activity ideas please let us have them.
  • Safety training, instruction and rules will be given before any children are allowed to practice any of the higher risk activities, like using knives, axes, saws and drills. We have full risk assessment documents, which will be circulated to participating leaders. If any parents would like to join us for this camp they are very welcome, as long as they realize they are there to help all children and not just their own.

The cost of this week-end camp is £30.00 per person.
