Bushcraft Camp 2014

Bushcraft Camp at Woodcraft Park Farm, Lurgashall: 30 May – 1 June 2014

Members from Harlow, Hornsey, Knaphill, Spelthorne, Waltham Abbey and Walton districts came together for this three day camp and it was the biggest that we have held so far.

The bushcraft area that we've created in the woods is now well established thanks to the hard work of members from several districts, and it is proving to be very popular.

Many members now prefer sleeping out in hammocks rather than in tents and the fact that we had trouble getting some of them up in the mornings just shows how comfortable they must be.

We also included Elfins in this camp for the first time, which meant providing additional activities for the younger ones. The children’s programme included carving and whittling objects from sticks, tinder, kindling & burning wood collecting, fire lighting and cooking their own brunch over the fire that they had made.

Members also made clay ‘Blobsters’ and clay tree face masks using clay dug by ourselves from a nearby clearing in the woods. A night wide game was played called ‘Spotlight’ and we did the full Woodcraft Folk fire lighting ceremony at a camp fire.

We are hoping to organise another bushcraft camp at the end of September or beginning of October. If you would be interested taking part please feel free to contact dt.sparx@virgin.net
