Congratulations, Bromley, on your Outstanding Team Volunteers Award!

Another fantastic story to round off Volunteers Week 2017 with the news that Bromley group volunteers have been awarded the Outstanding Team Volunteers Award at the 10th Community Links Bromley Volunteer Awards.

Bromley has four Woodcraft groups. The Elfins, Pioneers and Venturers groups are popular and thriving and the District Fellows have recently relaunched as Bromley and Borders and are active in encouraging more local people to join.

Tracy Cleveland, co co-ordinator, says that Bromley is a relatively traditional district so groups are leader led but they try to offer new and challenging opportunities for the children and young people. Camps and activities run all year and Bromley also joins in with the London Woodcraft programme.

The Mayor of Bromley, Cllr Kathy Bance MBE is pictured here with Andy Flinn, Co Co-ordinator, Jackie Davies, Membership Secretary, and Tracy Cleveland, Co Co-ordinator.

This award was for group volunteers. Tracy says,

‘It’s lovely to recognise the time and commitment the volunteers put in from programme planning, fundraising, family support and, of course, group nights and camps. As a district co-ordinator and a parent with children in the pioneer group, I am very proud and grateful to all our volunteers and it’s lovely when the efforts of the members are recognised outside of Folk.

The volunteer bureau asks for nominations that spell out what volunteers did and why they are special. Tracy says it was very difficult to pick out just one person so the team award was the best fit. The award mentions that some of the team members have also been awarded the Jack Petchey award for leadership.

‘If I had to say one thing I am proud of in Bromley, it is that the group leaders and adult members really try hard to make sure each child and young person’s time in Woodcraft is special. The adults really focus on supporting individual children to participate in the groups.’

Thank you for talking to us, Tracy. And massive congratulations to the whole team in Bromley!
