Black Lives Matter

“We’re not going to fight racism with racism, we’re going to fight it with solidarity.” Fred Hampton,

Fred Hampton was a young black activist and leader in the civil rights movement. At 21, he was murdered in his bed by a police officer.

The fight to end racism is far from over, and Woodcraft Folk stands in solidarity with all those affected by, and fighting against racist violence.

Racism must be challenged and opposed, and we we all have more work to do. We are committed to unity, action, and education to support young people to build a new and better world.

Woodcraft Folk published the above quote in response to the murder of George Floyd and have reviewed our #DreamBigAtHome programme to make sure people of colour are represented and that we continue to educate children and young people about anti-racisism and anti-fascisism. In the last two weeks we have encouraged young people to explore these issues through our weekly challenges:

  • Inviting young peopple to contribute to the Anne Frank challenge, challenging facism and promoting equality
  • Encouraging children and young people to make solidarity posters, showing that they stand with people struggling to achieve equality
  • Inspiring our members to learn and remix protect songs, including a remix of Back of the Bus!

We have also made sure that people of colour are represented in the stories we tell during our weekly story-time.

We are also aware that many local groups have discussed the BLM protests and issues of systemic racism during their weekly meetings.

Please check out for programme on BLM and opportunities for our members to learn about and discuss these issues.
