#10Things To Do With Woodcraft Folk This Summer

Launching our new resources to support children to take part in Woodcraft Folk activities wherever they live!

Last year we launched an ambitious new strategy - to reach all communities in the UK with our activities by 2025. Existing groups can be found across England, Scotland and Wales, and in line with the strategy we are opening new groups every year. Most of our activities at the moment are typically delivered through weekly groups meeting in community centres and parks, as well as residentials and camps in the holidays.

However, we are now launching age-specific activity packs which allow children to create their own programme wherever they might be. “10 Things To Do As A…” comes in four versions for Woodchips (Under 6’s), Elfins (6-9 years), Pioneers (10-12 years) and Venturers (13-15 years). Each resource gives young people a choice of activity under each of ten themes, allowing them to shape their own programme based on their interests, circumstances and abilities.

We hope that the resources will be used by new members who might not be able to access a group on a weekly basis due to health, distances or access to transport, as well as by existing members as a way to continue the Woodcraft Folk fun through the school holidays.

Debs McCahon, Director of Development and Joint CEO, said, “A young person can pick up one of these resources and complete the different activities with family, friends or sometimes on their own. It provides a way for those who might not be able to go to a group every week to get and stay involved. The activities offer a taster and families could then book onto a national camp or event at one of our centres to take part in residential opportunities too.”
