Group night activity

The Food Chain Game

by Mike Rossetti.

The aim of this game is for children to learn about basic ecology in a fun and creative way. The Food Chain Game stimulates both creative and rational faculties by incorporating elements of both art and science.

The Envoi

This is said or sung by Woodcraft Folk groups at the beginning or end of their weekly meeting, and sometimes at camps and events. Members stand in a circle. A PDF of the sheet music is available below.

Leading for the Future

What is leadership?

Woodcraft Folk, in partnership with Practical Participation, have created a powerful new resource to help young people explore leadership, develop new skills and make change in their community and in the world. We hope this book of activities, which can be done over the course of a term or as individual activities at an event, will help you develop as a group, create a shared vision of where you want to go, and take action on issues you believe are important.

Case study: Ealing Venturers dance project

Ealing Venturers spotted an issue they wanted to change in their community, and took action. Download the PDF below to find out how they addressed the relationships between adults and young people in their borough, which they felt needed improving.

If your Woodcraft group would like to start a project led by young people, that aims to make change in your community, why not make it into an Action Project and apply for funding and support from Woodcraft Folk?

Fairtrade recipe jars

A great activity if you don’t have cooking facilities at your venue. Children take the jars away with instructions for baking the biscuits at home.

Aim: To reinforce familiarity with the Fairtrade logo. Co-operation (sharing and turn taking with equipment and ingredients).
Duration: 45 minutes

Ingredients:
Plain flour,
Baking powder
Soft brown sugar*,
Ginger*
Cinnamon*
Ground cloves*
Allspice*

Campaign topics

Woodcraft Folk is supporting young people across the organisation to choose and campaign on a topic of their choice. Help your Woodcraft group explore what issues are important to them with this group night activity plan, including a reminder of Woodcraft's last youth-led campaign, Right to Refuge, and ways of brainstorming what the next campaign might focus on. You can download the plan below.

Quilt making for Hands In!

We’re going to be making Woodcraft Folk patchwork quilts during Hands In! aiming to end up with a quilt representing the groups and districts in each region.

During Hands In! Woodcraft Folk groups across the country are making squares to put together into big regional quilts – and we really hope you’ll join in too. Each square will say something about the group who made it (in a similar style to the ‘story quilt’ above), so the finished quilts will celebrate our movement and everyone who is part of it.

Mentoring taster session

Click the link below to download a new taster workshop about the Woodcraft Folk mentoring programme. This workshop is designed to help young people think about roles which they would be interested in taking which having a mentor might give the added confidence and support to commit to. Also it is great for people who are interested in being mentors and would like to get a taste of what this would involve.

Follow the Trail Resource Pack

What does Woodcraft Folk mean to you? As a Pioneer at group night? As a DF at district camp? As a Venturer on a regional committee?

Follow the Trail is a programme to help us all answer questions like this!!
