Workshop weekend: bitesize training and group role workshops

Woodcraft training is free for members, and a great chance to take a step back from group sessions, and to share ideas and skills. These sessions will help you to run a successful group, where children can engage, learn and have fun in a safe environment, with confident leaders and helpers. 

Saturday 30 January

  • 10-11.15am: Putting the Aims and Principles into Practice

    • Plan activities based on Woodcraft Folk aims and principles

  • 11.30am-1pm: Staying Safe 

    • Use Woodcraft Folk and district guidance to ensure the safety of children and young people in your group

  • 1-2pm: Buffet lunch

  • 2-3pm: Choice of workshops: (1) Safeguarding Coordinator role and (2) Group helper/ Leader role 

    • Find out how different groups keep children safe and run group sessions

Sunday 31 January

  • 10-11.15pm: Working Together

    • Establish common expectations about how your group can work together

    • Support each other to share leadership, and to understand and manage conflicts

  • 11.30am-1.30pm: Promoting Positive Behaviour 

    • Explore a range of techniques to respond constructively to challenging behaviour.

    • Work with other adults and children to establish consistent behaviour guidance.

  • 1-2pm: Buffet lunch 

  • 2-3pm: Choice of workshops: (1) Volunteer Coordinator role and (2) Treasurer role 

    • Find out how different groups recruit and support volunteers, and manage fundraising and finance

To confirm your free place, we require (1) your name, (2) group, (3) email, (4) phone number, (5) which sessions you will attend, (6) which days you need lunch (and any special dietary requirements). Contact us by 15 Jan, if you need childcare, and we can look for volunteers to run creche sessions.

The Swarthmore Centre is a 15 minute walk from Leeds railway station, and has free weekend parking behind the building, in Joseph Wells car park.
