Brothers and Sisters! Friends, comrades, friends to be and fellow Woodcraft Folk enthusiasts,

It is my honour and pleasure to invite you to the annual South West Area Network Woodcraft Folk Family Funday, to be held 1 October 2011 at Escot (www.escot-devon.co.uk)! If you've already attended a previous such annual event, I know I need say nothing more to enthuse you. If you have not, I suggest-in the strongest terms-that you plan to do so. Please book immediately/soon to avoid disappointment, as transportation and bivvying opportunity will be limited.
Festivities are the order of the day and so abound-but shall include but not be limited to- a Bushcraft activity involving tree identification, a song workshop, campfire & singing, a swamp walk(!), and traditional Saxon village activities (including bread making, and milling). The festivities shall commence on the day at 10am. At 4pm daytime activities will conclude (and so non-bivvyers shall return home), and it's on to the bivvy.

I strongly recommend the bivvy, even though I'm…not the best. Bivvying derives from the Germanic biwacht, and loosely translates as sleeping in an improvised shelter. Bivvyers may bring the materials that they like, most typically a tarp, sleeping back, and various ropes. Some of the bivvyers set up incredible foundations - in my own less than expert opinion even Mike came in no better than second last year - and even initiates are likely to do a better job than I will, in my third such effort. It's great fun, there's that Woodcraft shared sense of adventure, and the sun always rises in the morning.

TO BOOK YOUR PLACE

Please let me know as soon as possible, to assist our planning and as Bivvying will be limited to 50 of us. The cost is £5 per person for the day (only!), or £7 for bivvyers. Please let me know your plans and send your cheques as soon as possible to assist our designing appropriate transportation and bivvying strategies.

I look forward to seeing you all there.
