Can you help Woodcraft Folk ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate in one of our groups?

This free residential training weekend, held at our Lockerbrook Outdoor Centre, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, is an opportunity for new and existing volunteers to come together to explore how to grow and sustain our groups. The training is aimed at both volunteers working directly with young people in a local group, as well as those taking on District and camp roles, and current DFs or parents who are interested in taking on a volunteer role in the future.

Training sessions across the weekend will cover a variety of topics relevant to volunteering with Woodcraft Folk. For new volunteers, there will the opportunity to learn how to plan and deliver a programme of activities rooted in Woodcraft Folk’s aims & principles, and how to keep young people safe in our groups. All particpants will be able to reflect, share good practice and develop their skills and knowledge in recruitment and ongoing support of young members and other volunteers to ensure our groups continue to thrive and reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.

We'll draw on the lessons learned from our recent new group development projects, as well as the wealth of tools and resources that exist to support our volunteers, whatever their experience or level of engagement. Training will involve a mixture of practical exercises, group discussions and action planning.

There will also be the opportunity to cover and discuss other areas as they arise over the weekend and tailored to the needs and interests of participants. Evenings and break times will present opportunities to get to know other Woodcraft Folk volunteers from all over the country and make use of the facilities offered by our centres.

This training weekend is free to all attendees. Overnight accommodation and meals will be provided, although daytime only attendance is possible if you wish. You will need to make your own way to the training centres but support for travel costs is possible if your group/district are unable to pay these for you (please enquire with them first). Crèche facilities for any children who might need to accompany you can be arranged for during the training sessions, but please do notify us in advance.
