Azania Pioneers is a fantastic group for young people aged nine to 12 to gain confidence, meet friends and have fun.

Our group of Pioneers has a wide range of activities with a focus on being outdoors as much as possible. Based near the city centre, we make the most of parks, a local allotment, major attractions and, of course, the beach on our doorstep.

We also have sessions run by trained bushcraft leaders as well as creative and art-based sessions, including taking part in the annual Burning the Clocks winter solstice parade.

The group is well established. It was formed in the 1980s by Paul Bemrose, who is still a leader with us today, and continues to move with the times. Built on all the Woodcraft Folk main principles, we encourage our young people to be co-operative while enjoying and challenging the world they're growing in.

We join with the main Brighthelmstone district throughout the year and to take part in a week long District Summer camp each August. The summer camp gives the young people a chance to explore their abilities more widely and take part in activities we don't have time for in our weekly sessions. Favourites include hammocking in the woods, fire building, pea fair day, trekking and the wide game.

Azania Pioneers is a very popular group and we often have to maintain a waiting list for places. Please contact us at azaniapioneers@gmail.com
