Our Times: campaign activities for Venturers

Our Times is the new campaign from young people around Woodcraft Folk, who want to give other young people a platform to be heard on social and political issues including war. The aim is to enable young people to educate each other on the issues they care about, and enable wider society to hear and respect young people's views.

Planning an Action Project - group activities

Woodcraft Folk can currently offer funding to groups who want to run youth-led projects to take action on social issues or local community initiatives, so you can turn your plan into an application to get some funding and support. Find out more...

Right to Refuge campaign materials

The TREE Communications Group, who run Woodcraft's Right to Refuge campaign, have created a leaflet about refugees and asylum seekers in the UK, full of ideas on how we can help them. They've also created a postcard with simple messages about the Right to Refuge campaign. 

 

Campaign topics

Woodcraft Folk is supporting young people across the organisation to choose and campaign on a topic of their choice. Help your Woodcraft group explore what issues are important to them with this group night activity plan, including a reminder of Woodcraft's last youth-led campaign, Right to Refuge, and ways of brainstorming what the next campaign might focus on. Take action

There are lots of ways to campaign, collaborate and make change with Woodcraft’s help:

Campaign workshop

This is a series of activities that can be run separately or one after the other if you've got a whole group night to spare. They involve

  • representing unfamiliar opinions
  • exploring an issue in depth 
  • matching messages with audiences
  • planning how to get your message across

Same But Different

This activity can be run as the first activity in a group night about refugee issues, to get Elfins thinking about people who might seek sanctuary in the UK, what they need and how we can help them.

You will need: chalk or string

Time: 15 minutes

Draw a chalk circle on the floor, or make one in string, about the size of a group circle.

Ask everyone to stand just outside the circle, and to jump into it when a statement is read that applies to them.

Woodcraft Folk and political activity

Woodcraft Folk members are playing an active role in the large public demonstrations in 2010 and 2011. Just like in 2003 the movement's high profile in civil society offers us the prospect of reaching out to new adults and children. However, as we become more visible, so we must expect our position to be questioned - so here are some questions answered.
