Congratulations to three districts, Bromley, Clapham and Chorlton & Whalley Range, who have been selected as recipients of the Co-op Local Community Fund.
As you will know, funding from the Co-op that regions and districts used to receive has been reduced or stopped. However, a new Local Community Fund has been set up to support local charities and the first recipients have been selected, including at least three Woodcraft districts.
Ground Control to Major Tom
This summer, Reigate and Redhill District descended on Park Farm, a campsite run by Woodcraft Folk. This was a new site for us, and a new direction in the theming of camps!
We have tended to theme a camp about a local place or historical person – but this time we went with broadening our cultural knowledge into the relatively recent history – back into the youth of some of the leaders! Prehistory to the kids!
On Sunday September 11th Kelvingrove Woodcraft Folk joined forces with the Glasgow Children's Wood to run the children's activities at the Yorkhill and Kelvingrove Community Gala Day. About 300 people attended including about 100 children and young people.
Welcome to another World
220 Woodies from about 20 different districts attended the IFM camp; after the Catalans we were the second largest foreign
group. Most of us lasted the two weeks, some came for one week only. The central catering took some getting used to and we missed the bonding that happens in the cooking clans. But there was lots of good stuff too.
Campfires are a key part of the Woodcraft Folk experience and bonfire night is a great opportunity for singing and eating aroung a fire when camping season is just a distant memory. And as a regular part of our activities, properly organised camp fires are covered by our regular insurance.
Bromley Elfin weekend got off to a high note as we visted Box Hill nature play trail and stunning view point.
During our stay the Elfins visited the Faurefold Guide site, explored the woods and then spent a happy evening crafting; tye deying, latern making and hama bead designing.
On 17th September, Woodcraft are demonstrating in solidarity with refugees in London.
