Woodies makeover begins

Friday, 2 February 2018

A team of eager volunteers gathered at Biblins over the weekend to give the site a good spring clean. Volunteers travelled

to the site from Leicester, Bristol, Bath, Cheltenham, Stroud and Leighton Buzzard to scrub, paint, clear paths and generally to start the process of giving the Biblins site a Woodcraft make over. The team of volunteers included young people, those new to Biblins and those who have camped on the site for over 20 years, and together they have made a start on improving site services.

Debs McCahon, Woodcraft Folk’s Director of Development, was there and said “It was great to have the keys and be on site with a team of Woodcraft Folk volunteers. We had spent many hours during the autumn developing our business plan and working on spreadsheets – so to actually be on site doing something practical to make it clean and safe for future guests was fantastic. We can’t wait for the new staff team to be in place next month and to welcome the first guests.”

It wasn’t all work over the weekend, with volunteers taking time to enjoy a campfire, a walk along the river and spotting wildlife including otters, buzzards and boar.

Volunteers will be gathering again during the February half term holidays to ensure the site is fresh and ready for the first guests of the season who arrive on March 2nd. If you have a few hours to spare and don’t mind getting your hands dirty please get in touch, especially if you enjoy tiling and painting!

Woodcraft Folk are very excited about taking on the management of the Biblins site to ensure its continued use as a campsite for children and young people. Over the coming month Woodcraft Folk will contact all previous users, neighbours and local activity providers to share their plans for raising standards and increasing the numbers of children and young people accessing and enjoying nature at Biblins. Woodcraft Folk is committed to honouring all historical bookings and looks forward to working with regular guests to meet their needs and relaunching the Bunkhouse in 2019.
