Woodchips take over Gwerin Annual Gathering

Friday, 12 October 2012

Y rhai cyntaf i gyrraedd Cynulliad Blynyddol Gwerin oedd Megan a Joel dau o gywion y coed Llyn Brenig. Mae'r ddau yn rhan o dyfiant diweddar mewn grwpiau newydd yng Nghymru a fydd yn sicrhau dyfodol disglair i Werin y Coed. Eleni roedd gan bawb ddewis i aros yn yr hostel neu i gampio. ‘Mam, mi fysa pedwar tent arall yn ffitio yn tent ni! Joel wrth gymharu pabell ei hun a'r babell leiaf yn y cae.

The first to arrive at Gwerin Annual Gathering were Megan and Joel, woodchips from Llyn Brenig. They are part of the recent growth in new groups shaping the future of Gwerin y Coed, the Woodcraft Folk in and Wales. This year the event was split between the dormitories and camping. ‘Mummy, you could fit about four of those in our tent couldn't you?' Joel, when comparing his tent to the smallest in the field.

Roedd y safle mawr yn cynnwys safle chwarae antur a choedwig a gafodd ei mwynhau gan lawer (penderfynwyd fod DFs dal yn Gywion y Coed yn eu calonnau.) Ar ôl cinio aeth pawb mas i gasglu coed a chyn bo hir roedd tân mawr gyda ni, gall hyn ond meddwl un peth: “marshmallows”!

The large site included an adventure play park and woodland that were enjoyed by many (it was decided that the DFs are still secretly Woodchips at heart). After dinner a wood collecting expedition set out and we soon had a roaring fire in the fire pit, this could mean only one thing: Marshmallows!

Y diwrnod nesaf roedd hi’n amser dechrau ar y busnes difrifol o’r penwythnos trafod cyfeiriad Gwerin i’r dyfodol, gyda thrafodaethau ar ariannu, prosiectau a’r posibiliad o drip i’r gwersyll rhyngwladol yn Finland flwyddyn nesaf. Hefyd cynhalion ein EGM ac oedd e’n grêt clywed am beth oedd gwahanol grwpiau wedi bod yn ei wneud dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf. Yn ystod y gweithdai roedd y plant yn mwynhau gwneud pypedau 'Nesh i fwynhau gwneud cwch ar gyfer y sioe pypedau' Joel.

The next day it was time to get on with the serious business of the weekend discussing the future direction of Gwerin, with discussions on funding, projects and a possible trip to the international camp in Finland next year. We also held our EGM, and it was great to hear what different groups had been doing over the last year. During the workshops the younger ones enjoyed puppet making 'I liked creating a boat for the puppet show'  Joel.

Yn ystod y prynhawn aeth grŵp mas i gasglu mwyar gan adael llawer bys wedi'i staenio ac yn brifo ond roedd powlen mawr llawn yn y gegin.

As the afternoon unfolded an impromptu blackberry picking session resulted in prickled and stained fingers but quite a haul!

Wedyn, rhoddodd y plant sioe bypedau ymlaen er mwyn ein diddanu.

We were then treated to a puppet show by those who had built puppets earlier in the day.

Gyda'r nos casglom ni o gwmpas y tân unwaith eto i wneud gweithdy coginio dros y tân, banana, afal, sinamon a siwgr a chwstard figanaidd i orffen e fwrdd! Ar ôl cwcio canu caneuon Gwerin o gwmpas y tân.

That evening we gathered around the camp fire once again for a campfire cooking workshop, bananas, apples with sugar and cinnamon, yet more marshmallows and finished off with some vegan custard! Afterwards we had a good old Woodcraft song singalong around the fire.

Y diwrnod nesaf roedd mwy o weithdai ar beth yw DFs? A mwy o grefftau cyn oedd e’n amser gwneud y darn weithiaf o ddigwyddiadau Gwerin a mynd adref!

The next day there was more workshops on what are DFs? And more crafts before it was time to do the worst bit of woodcraft events and go home!
