London Venturer Activity Weekend at Phasels Wood

Monday, 9 October 2017

At the end of September, 80 Venturers from London and surrounding areas had a great weekend at the Phasels Wood Activity Centre near Kings Langley. It was the first time that we used this site which came with the challenge of Venturers (and some of their leaders) sleeping in three different residential buildings. In good Woodcraft fashion we assigned clans to cooking duties and managed to feed everybody well in two locations. The dorms were small with beds for 4 or 6 and most of them had a small en-suite bathroom! But that didn't stop the Venturers from piling in en masse, was 17 the largest number for one small room?

The activities were great and everybody got a chance to do three. There were old favourites like climbing, archery, zip wire and crate stacking. Human table football was new as were great inflated (hamster) balls called Land Zorbs and a short toboggan run – they were all popular. Tunnelling was a real challenge as it was narrow and wet down there. Apparently the Fire brigade use the tunnels for practice!

We also had some craft, bush craft, a camp fire and a wide game.

All in all a great weekend, likely to be repeated next year.
